Buying Guide for Kayak Hatch Storage Bags
Choosing the best kayak hatch storage bag depends on several important factors. Reviewing these considerations will help you select the right hatch kit for your needs.
Size and Compatibility
Measure your kayak’s hatch opening carefully before purchasing. Hatch plates come in different outer and inner diameters, so selecting the correct size ensures a proper fit and seal. Some kits also specify cutting sizes if you need to modify your kayak deck.
Material Durability
Look for hatches made from high-quality ABS, PVC, or polypropylene. These materials offer resistance to UV rays, corrosion, impacts, and wear from saltwater or rain. Durable materials extend hatch lifespan under rigorous outdoor use.
Waterproof Storage Bag
The integral feature of a hatch storage bag is its waterproof capability. Bags made with waterproof or water-resistant materials, often with secure closures like zippers or roll-tops, keep your belongings dry during water exposure.
Seal and Gasket Design
A reliable gasket, commonly EVA foam, helps protect your kayak hull from damage and improves the waterproof seal around the hatch plate. This reduces the risk of leaks and water intrusion.
Ease of Installation and Removal
Choose hatch kits that are easy to install with pre-drilled holes or mounting fasteners included. Removable hatch covers and bags add convenience for quick access and storage flexibility.
Shape and Style
Most hatch plates are round, but some come in square shapes for certain kayak models. Consider the hatch shape and profile to ensure it fits your kayak’s design and looks seamless on your deck.
Price and Brand Reliability
While price should not be the only factor, investing in reputable brands known for marine accessories can give extra assurance of quality and after-sales support.
Overall, evaluate your kayak usage, storage needs, and weather exposure to pick the best kayak hatch storage bag that offers convenience, security, and weather protection while you enjoy your water adventures.
